Equal Opportunity & Title IX participates in various national and international awareness months, including National Stalking Awareness Month, Sexual Assault Awareness Month, and Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Below is more information on our programming for each month:

Domestic Violence Awareness Month

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM). UNT recognizes this time and acknowledges how domestic violence impacts our campus community. We are committed to annually hosting programs that spread awareness, educate on healthy relationship practices, and provide information on support available to individuals impacted by domestic violence.

Domestic Violence Awareness Month 2024 Recap

  • EO/TIX held multiple tabling events around the Denton and Frisco campuses providing information on bystander intervention, healthy relationships, and on-campus resources during DVAM 2024.
  • EO/TIX also coordinated Purple Prom in collaboration with the Dean of Students Office, Student Health and Wellness Center, and University Program Council. Purple Prom is a recognition of Domestic Violence Awareness Month and a celebration of healthy relationship values. All attendees were encouraged to bring hygiene items or shelf stable food to donate to Denton County Friends of the Family's Domestic Violence Shelter.
Stalking Awareness Month

January is Stalking Awareness Month. Stalking is against UNT Policy 16.005, and we are committed to promoting a safe campus environment. Throughout the month of January, EO/TIX puts on programs that educate students and employees on the prevalence of stalking, how to recognize and prevent stalking, and support available to individuals who have experienced stalking.

Stalking Awareness Month 2025 Recap

  • EO/TIX hosted a total of 15 tabling events at each residence hall during Stalking Awareness Month to facilitate a game on stalking awareness and answer questions students may have about our office. It was great to hear from students about their commitment to ending stalking on campus.
  • EO/TIX also worked with the Dean of Students office to host an educational game on cyberstalking and give out information on support available to individuals experiencing stalking.
Sexual Assault Awareness Month

April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM). Throughout this time, EO/TIX and other campus departments coordinate various events to educate the campus community on best practices to prevent sexual violence and raise awareness of the prevalence of sexual assault. We also annually participate in Denim Day: an international day of recognition of all forms of sexual violence.

SAAM 2025 Recap

  • EO/TIX participated in many successful events during SAAM 2025! A few events we participated in are highlighted below:
  • SAAM Day of Action Tabling: We joined other campus departments to kick off Sexual Assault Awareness Month by teaching students how they can get involved in the movement to end sexual violence on campus.
  • Denim Clothing Drive for DCFOF: EO/TIX co-hosted a campus wide clothing drive for Denton County Friends of the Family (DCFOF). We accepted donations of denim clothing on-campus to support DCFOF's Denim Day event and their resale store!
  • Together We Act, UNiTed We Change: EO/TIX participated in this campus wide event recognizing Sexual Assault Awareness Month. We had resources, games, and free shirts for participants.
  • Denim Day: April 30th, 2025 was Denim Day, an international day against sexual violence. EO/TIX partnered with the Dean of Students' Office and the Student Health and Wellness Center to host an educational event on the myths surrounding sexual violence.

SAAM 2026 Events

  • Wed, April 1, 2026: SAAM Day of Action: This launches SAAM.  In partnership with other campus departments, we will kick off Sexual Assault Awareness Month by teaching students how they can get involved in the movement to end sexual violence on campus. We encourage everyone to wear teal this month in support of SAAM and Sexual Assault Survivors.  Stop by the table to learn more!
  • Tue, April 7, 2026: FRIES for FRIES: This program will focus on discussing consent.  We will discuss the acronym "FRIES", which stands for Freely given, Reversible, Informed, Enthusiastic, and Specific, to explain how to know if you've received or given consent.  Students can snack on french fries, play games, and learn about consent when they stop by the table!
  • Tue, April 14, 2026: Looking Back, Moving Forward: This community fair will provide the UNT Community with on and off-campus resources and ways to get involved with organizations helping to prevent sexual assault and support survivors.  Students will be given a bingo card that they can complete by visiting different tables. When they complete bingo, they will win a merchandise item!
  • Tue, April 28, 2026: Denim Day: Denim Day is an international day against sexual violence that occurs on the last Wednesday in April. We encourage the campus to wear denim on April 28 in support of Survivors and all who have been impacted by sexual violence.  We will have a table in the Library Mall with more campus resources and games about dating, consent, and safety.  There will be a raffle for a prize provided by the Dean of Student's Office.  Stop by the table to get information and sign up for the raffle!
